A new independent grounded theory study has been released:
Self-Empowerment – Women Resolving Vulnerability to Physical Violence
by Antony Last
(2025)
This work presents a fully developed grounded theory of how women resolve vulnerability to physical violence through preparation, defence, rebuilding, and long-term stabilisation. The theory was derived directly from the lived experiences of women in South Africa and reflects a clear, structured analysis grounded in participants’ own words, processes, and meanings.
The study offers:
-
a detailed explanation of women’s core concern of vulnerability,
-
a conceptual model of self-empowerment as the resolving pattern,
-
a structured account of preparation, defensive action, and post-violence rebuilding,
-
a layered theory architecture based on precise qualitative analysis, and
-
practical implications for personal safety, social support, and wider violence-prevention efforts.
This publication is presented as an independent edition to ensure full methodological integrity and direct access to the findings exactly as they emerged from the data.
